Life in Austin – My Interweb Is Back!!!

This is what happens when you try to make Turkish coffee in the microwave. Fail. Guess I'll just have to find a local restaurant that serves it or buy a Turkish coffee holder pot.

Our family of 5 finally settled into our new home in Austin, TX about 10 days ago, and since then I have not had internet on my laptop… until tonight. That meant TEN DAYS without blogging! To celebrate the return of the interweb, I’m having a party with myself – watching Obama give his awesome speech (if only he would keep all his promises!), drinking my cheap (but goooood!) red wine, and writing this post while my 3 kids snore in their room (Yes, I know, I’m shocked too that they’re all 3 asleep by 8:30pm!! They must be FINALLY getting used to the time change!).

It’s been almost a month since we’ve moved over from Croatia, and it’s been an exciting, difficult, happy, and exhausting time (yes, all those things at the same time). It’s amazing all the things you have to do after moving back to the U.S. after having lived abroad awhile. Like, for instance, I had to retake my driving test (yes, there was actually a part of me that thought I’d fail.. even though I’d been driving a gear shift on those super small Croatian streets the past half decade). I also had to get my new job set up (I somehow managed to find a job while still in Croatia – how crazy / awesome is that!), buy a car, get a new cell phone plan, set up a new bank account, change my social security card, register my foreign marriage license, get my hubby’s paperwork set up, buy furniture and buy EVERYTHING else that goes in my house (you would be surprised at how much stuff you actually need for your home!)… let’s just say it’s been a very busy 10 days. But thankfully we’re all set up and can finally relax!

In the "kitchen" at the Austin Children's Museum (definitely my FAVORITE kid place EVER!!!!!). Seriously, that place is TOO awesome. I'm an adult, and I was excited about what was at all the cool little learning stations.

There are so many things that I miss about Croatia (the beaches, the relaxed lifestyle, the culture, the coffee), but there are also so many things that I’m thankful for having back – like my friends and family, an endless array of foods to eat and places to shop, simple bureaucracy, things being easier overall to set up, etc.. And of course, I LOVE that I am back in my alma mater’s city – Austin!!!

I have lots of great stuff that I want to share with you – one review related to breastfeeding (with accompanying giveaway) coming up next week, a food review and giveaway later this month, cool stuff related to your kitchen, and lots more.

Now, time to get posting!!! Hope everyone’s having a great Tuesday evening. :)
